Self Consciousness

This thing called self consciousness is interesting. It keeps people from doing and saying things. When I was younger I was way more self conscious than I am now. The one thing that I regret is that it kept me from enjoying myself at times. I am still self conscious to a degree but I don't care what others think as much as a used to. I do care about their feelings because I don't want to hurt them. But sometimes you end up hurting people more by staying silent or refusing to do something that you think is goofy, childish or just plain crazy. I think it is more important to be yourself. When you are yourself people can see that you are not perfect and they appreciate who you are. I consider my best friends to be the ones that I am comfortable being myself around them. The friends who I can act crazy with. My best friends are the ones who I don't have to worry about them getting upset over something careless that I said or did. They understand that my intentions toward them are good.

My challenge to you is this: let down your guard and have fun.

Awards: Merit based or not.

One of my pet peeves when teaching karate is when parents expect me to give every kid an award. I don't believe in giving awards that are not merit based. For example, when I give a kid a stripe it is because he earned it by learning a certain technique(s) and demonstrating it with skill. I like to give prizes such as Student of the Day to the most well behaved, enthusiastic, hardest working, or most improved kid. I like to award stickers for kids who put forth above average effort or excel in a certain area. I believe that the kids who don't earn the award should try harder next time. An important lesson that kids have to learn is that they cannot win all the time. But some parents would rather keep their kids from ever losing because they see it as a horrible thing. But losing is not a bad thing. People can learn a lot from their failures. Sometimes the kids that benefit the most from competition are the ones that lose. They end up working hard and achieving far more than the kid who wins.

As I told my brother, I don't want to run a communistic dojo where kids get the same award whether they try their best or not. Instead, I want to run a dojo where kids are rewarded for their hard work and diligence.

Old Fashioned

I describe myself as an old fashioned person. I sometimes find myself realizing that I am more old fashioned than I thought previously. A lot of people do not understand what this means so I'm going to make a list of my old fashioned beliefs.

1. I believe in God. I believe that God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow which means that the old testament is relevant today.

2. I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman.

3. I believe in saving sex for marriage and saving lots of other things for marriage also.

4. Dressing modestly is important. I think dressing modestly is another way to save more for my husband.

5. Purity is important. One of the greatest gifts that my mother gave me was sheltering me from evil things when I was a child.

6. Family is more important than anything else except for God.

7. Guys should do the pursuing in a relationship. They should be gentlemen and treat ladies with respect. I will not ask a guy out or ask him to marry me.

8. Women should act like ladies. No cussing or inappropriate talk. They should act decently and modestly. Women should honer their father and husband.

9. I think men should be the breadwinners and women the homemakers. This does not mean that I disagree with women getting jobs or men doing housework. But if a man is able to he should provide for his family.

10. Children should be conceived and born after marriage. It is wrong for single women to adopt. Children need both a mother and a father.

11. Women shouldn't ever fight in wars unless the war comes to them.

12. I think addressing people by title and last name is good. I look forward to going by Mrs._________ when I get married. I think children should address their elders as Mr. and Mrs./Ms.

If you are a Christian... vote.

I just want to say, if you live in America, vote. Vote for what you believe in. If you are a Christian, vote for what you believe in and for the people who believe the same or are the closest. Don't vote for someone who supports abortion. Don't vote for someone who supports anything that is unbiblical.

VOTE!!! We need to take a stand for what we believe in.

I Want to Be Pursued

I'm old-fashioned. Really old-fashioned. I think that if a guy is interested in me he should pursue me. I'm not going to pursue him or win his heart. It is his job to win my heart. I tell people I court. But the old way of courting involved the guy courting the girl. He went to her house and they sat in the parlor. She didn't go to his house. He was doing the courting and she was letting him court her. I don't go quite to that extreme but I almost do. I think before you actually become boyfriend and girlfriend, the guy does all the asking and pursuing. Once you start a more serious relationship then it is all right for the girl to ask him out as long as he is continuing to ask her out every so often. I want to be pursued. I want a guy who will love me enough to come after me. Is that too much to ask?

Legal Murder

I gave this speech in class last week and it turned out good. So I thought I would post it here for everyone to read.

Disposable People

America is a wasteful society. We have disposable dishes, paper towels, and diapers. We throw away vast amounts of stuff everyday. But stuff is not the only thing we throw away. Let me tell you about what I call the disposable people. Disposable people are those that are thrown away because no one wants them. I am talking about abortion and euthanasia.

So what is the problem with abortion? Abortion is the leading cause of death claiming about 3,700 victims everyday. That is 1.3 million abortions per year. Over 40 million babies have been aborted since 1973. This far out numbers all soldier fatalities going back to the revolutionary war. 1/3 of people are being aborted. We could have killed the next Einstin, or delayed finding the cure for cancer and AIDS. So why are these babies being aborted? 93% of abortions are because the baby is unwanted or the timing is “inconvenient”.

Euthanasia is not yet legal in the United States but people are trying to legalize it. Euthanasia is killing a patient who is suffering and going to die anyway. Sometimes the overdose of medication is given to the patient so he can end his life if he chooses and other times it is the family that decides when the Doctor should mercifully end the life of the patient. Physician assisted suicide is legal in Oregon where a Doctor can prescribe a lethal dose of medication to a patient who is terminally ill and wishes to end their life.

Duet 30:19 This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live

Euthanasia brings several questions to mind. Are terminally people in the right frame of mind to be making the decision? What keeps Euthanasia from getting out of hand? Will euthanizing children be made legal?

We must make sure that we do not end up like Germany under Hitler. Hitler killed Jews, Christians, and anyone who did not fit into his “perfect race”. My Grandmother remembers one day when they took all the handicapped people away and killed them just for being defective.

Our future relies on the unborn children. They are our future Doctors, Scientists, and leaders.

So what can we do to stop this? Raise people’s awareness and vote when these issues come up. Put an end to legal murder and stop abortion and Euthanasia.

But overall we must value all life and put an end to disposable people.

Gentlemen

It is really nice when guys open doors for me. I have noticed that most guys at school will open doors for me. It makes me feel like a lady. I just want to say good job to all the guys out there who are holding doors open. I really appreciate it. Thank you.

What Is The Point?

People tell me I have to go to college.

I say, why do I have to go to college?

They say, so you can get a good job.

I teach karate. I like teaching karate. I want to teach karate. Why do I need to spend all the time to get a degree if I'm never going to use it.

But you need a good job that will make money.

Why do I have to make lots of money? What is life? Is it going to college so you can get a degree so you can get a good job so you can make lots of money so you can buy lots of stuff and go to lots of places so you can be very happy so you can have kids so they can go to college so they can get a degree so they can get a good job so they can make lots of money.........? I would like to think that life is about living for God not about money. I really don't care about money right now. I just want to teach karate and make enough to support myself in a humble fashion. I want to serve in my church. I want to have time for relationships. Isn't that what life is about? Relationships. Our relationship with God should be most important and relationships with others should have priority over everything else. I want to do what God wants. I'm not sure what He wants right now. But I don't feel led or excited to go to college. Am I off based? Are my ideas wacky? Am I wrong for thinking this way?

Sunburns

Well it is the beginning of summer. People are getting their first sunburns of the year. This bothers me. Why don't people put sunscreen on? I know one girl who is in agony because of a really bad sunburn. Both of my grandfathers have had skin cancer. My uncle died of a skin cancer that spread through his body. Sunscreen is cheap compared to cancer treatments. Why don't people put sunscreen on? I know that cancer runs in my family so I have to be extra careful. I slather myself with sunscreen and only wear shorts on the hottest days. I don't wear sleeveless tops either. I don't expect people to go as far as I do. I just wish they would put sunscreen on. And if you chose to get sunburned don't complain to me.

Questionare

I was at school today and a guy handed me a survey of opinions on certain topics. I thought that the questions were thought-provoking and good ones to talk about.

1. Do you believe that marriage is a sacred bond in today's world? or is this particular "bond" over rated and/or misused?

2. If you having certain privileges meant others going without would that be ok? In the context of the world Americans have much at our disposal....would you rather have everyone with the same or some with more and others with less?

3. Do you believe segregation and racism are dead or are these still issues that must be dealt with?
